When you are struggling to meet your word count it can be incredibly easy to waffle on needlessly. Especially if you haven’t created an essay structure before starting to write. Often, when a student submits an assignment to be proofread, much of the written work has to be crossed through as the same thing is being said repeatedly with slightly different wording.

Try to be as succinct as possible. Not only will it make your essay easier to read as it will flow better, but it also means you can expand on your argument with the remaining ‘spare’ words. Being succinct does make it harder to meet your word count, however, your writing will have a greater impact. Ensure you explain your argument fully. Being succinct gives you more room to incorporate wider reading within your assignment.

Less is definitely more.
